Creating Discount Rules

Creating Discount Rules #

A discount rule defines the offer you want to make, including the product, discount type, and coupon settings. Once published, you can use the rule to generate unique coupon codes and shareable discount links.

1. Create a Discount Rule #

1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Divi Coupon Links → Add Discount Rule.
2. Enter a title for your rule. This is for internal use and won’t be shown to customers.
3. Select the product the discount applies to.
4. Choose a discount type and configure the available settings.
5. Click Publish.

The selected product is required. For BOGO offers, you must also select a reward product.

2. Configure the Rule Settings #

Product #

Select the product the offer applies to.

For product discounts, this is the product that receives the discount. For cart discounts, the discount applies to the entire cart, but the selected product is still added to the cart when a customer uses the link.

For BOGO offers, this is the product customers need to buy to unlock the reward.

Discount Type #

Choose one of the available discount types:

• Percentage Discount (Product) — Apply a percentage discount to the selected product.
• Percentage Discount (Cart) — Apply a percentage discount to the entire cart.
• Fixed Discount (Product) — Apply a fixed-amount discount to the selected product.
• Fixed Discount (Cart) — Apply a fixed-amount discount to the entire cart.
• BOGO (Buy X, Get Y) — Reward customers with a free or discounted product when they purchase the required quantity of another product.

Amount #

For percentage and fixed discounts, enter the discount amount.

For example, enter 10 for a 10% discount or a fixed discount of 10 in your store’s currency, depending on the selected discount type.

This field is replaced by the BOGO-specific settings when you select the BOGO discount type.

Valid For (Days from Generation) #

Set how many days a generated coupon remains valid.

The countdown starts when the coupon is generated, not when the rule is published.

• Enter a number greater than zero to set the validity period.
• Enter 0 to create coupons that do not expire.

Usage Limit per Coupon #

Set how many times each generated coupon can be used.

The default is 1, making each coupon a one-time-use coupon.

Coupon Code Prefix #

Choose the prefix used at the beginning of generated coupon codes.

For example, with the prefix POWDI, a generated code might look like POWDI-4F7K2Q.

Link Base URL #

Choose the page customers will land on when they click the discount link.

• Leave this field empty to use the URL configured in Divi Coupon Links → Settings.
• If no default URL is configured, the WooCommerce cart page is used.
• Enter a URL here to override the default for this specific rule.

Changing the default URL or a rule’s URL affects newly generated links only. Links you’ve already shared keep their original destination.

3. Configure a BOGO Offer #

When you select BOGO (Buy X, Get Y) as the discount type, the standard Amount field is replaced by these settings:

Trigger Quantity #

Enter how many units of the selected product the customer must have in their cart to unlock the reward.

Reward Product #

Select the product the customer receives as a reward.

This can be the same product as the one they’re buying, such as in a buy-one-get-one-free offer, or a different product.

Reward Quantity #

Enter how many units of the reward product the customer receives.

Reward Discount (%) #

Set the percentage discount applied to the reward product.

• 100 means the reward is free.
• A lower percentage gives the customer a partial discount.

Coupon Message #

Optionally, enter a custom message to display in the cart instead of the default message, “Free product applied”.

Apply to Subscription Renewals #

This option is intended for stores using WooCommerce Subscriptions.

• Unchecked: The offer is intended as a one-time signup perk.
• Checked: The deal is intended to apply to subscription renewal orders as well.

Important: This option has not yet been verified against a live WooCommerce Subscriptions setup. Test it thoroughly before relying on it for renewal offers.

4. Publish and Edit Rules #

Click Publish to save your rule. If a required product is missing, the plugin displays an error and prevents the rule from being published.

To edit an existing rule:

1. Go to Divi Coupon Links → Discount Rules.
2. Click the rule’s title.
3. Update the settings.
4. Click Update.

Important: Changes to a rule affect coupons generated after the changes are saved. Existing coupons and their links retain the settings they had when they were created.

This means you can update an offer for a future campaign without changing coupons you’ve already distributed.

What’s Next? #

Once your rule is published, go to Divi Coupon Links → Generated Coupons to create a coupon and get its shareable link. See Generating and Managing Coupon Links for the next steps.
